Illinois Gaming Board

The Riverboat Gambling Act was enacted in February 1990, making Illinois the second State in the nation to legalize riverboat gambling. The Act established the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB or Board) and authorized it to grant up to ten casino licenses. On September 11, 1991, the first riverboat casino began operation in Alton. Currently all ten licenses are active. In 2009, the Legislature passed the Video Gaming Act, which established video gaming in Illinois under the jurisdiction of the Board.
