Comparison of State and Local Government Revenue in the United States

Environmentally related taxes are effective policy instruments to shape relative prices of goods and services. The Environmental Related Tax Revenue Database (ERTR) categorises taxes based on their environmental relevance, constructing environmentally related tax revenue with a breakdown by tax-base category (including energy, transport, pollution, and resources) and 22 environmental domains. Note that tax-base categories are mutually exclusive, while domains are not. Therefore, one should not aggregate revenue across domains as it may lead to double counting.

This dataset provides a comprehensive view of government revenue, including detailed classifications of taxes, social contributions, grants receivable, and other revenue.

Government Revenue Dataset (GRD), developed through the International Centre for Tax and Development (ICTD), is aimed at overcoming this obstacle. It meticulously combines data from several major international databases, as well as drawing on data compiled from all available International Monetary Fund (IMF) Article IV reports. It achieves marked improvements in data coverage and accuracy, including a standardized approach to revenue from natural resources, and holds the promise of significant improvement in the credibility and robustness of research in this area. It provides a faithful image, to the greatest extent possible, of the aggregates and balances of the general government sector in the SNA 1993 conceptual framework. In addition, it brings to light two relevant aggregates that do not belong to this conceptual frame work: the Total Revenue and the Total Expenditure of the general government sector. Data on government sector receipts, and on taxes in particular, are basic inputs to most structural economic descriptions and economic analyses and are increasingly used in international comparisons. This annual database presents a unique set of detailed and internationally comparable tax data in a common format for all OECD countries.

General Revenue-Related Funds Fiscal 2021 Data on net state revenue collections deposited to general revenue-related funds, both by month of collection and type of revenue source. General revenue-related funds affect the discretionary spending detailed in the General Appropriation Act, and consist of the General Revenue Fund, Available School Fund, State Technology Instructional Materials Fund, Foundation School General Revenue Dedicated Account and General Revenue Dedicated Account related to the Tobacco Settlement.

A key set of information for policy analysis is i) how much revenue is collected; ii) in what ways is it collected; iii) from which institutional units of the economy are revenues raised for each particular financing scheme; and iv) which financing schemes receive those revenues. This dataset provides information about the contribution mechanisms the particular financing schemes use to raise their revenues. Understanding the nature of the flows is of importance from the perspective of both health and public finance policy. For example, the classification of revenues make it possible to distinguish between public and private funding of health care finance. Understanding how resources are raised by financing schemes is important for many countries, as many health systems are struggling with the issue of funding. The classification of revenues of financing schemes is suitable for tracking the collection mechanisms of a financing framework. Furthermore, the new classification makes it possible to analyse the contribution of the institutional units to health financing.

The IMF’s World Revenue Longitudinal Data set (WoRLD) is a compilation of government tax and non-tax revenues from the IMF’s Government Finance Statistics and World Economic Outlook, and drawing on the OECD Revenue Statistics and Revenue Statistics in Latin American and the Caribbean.

This dataset features the top 10 games markets ranked on their revenue estimates for 2019. These estimates are based on a combination of primary consumer research, transactional data, quarterly company reports, and census data. The revenues are based on consumer spending in each country and exclude hardware sales, tax, business-to-business services, and online gambling and betting revenues.
