The number of hungry people in the world has been increasing during the last 2 years. According to the FAO the growth was 1.5% in 2018. The malnutrition rate in 2018 reached five years ago level. The situation is mainly deteriorating due to an increase in the number of hungry people in African regions, while in Asia, on the contrary, the slowdown is observed.

In addition to slowing economic growth and international conflicts development, the renewed increase in the number of hungry people in the world is affected by climate change and, as a result, extreme climatic events leading to droughts or floods and destroying crops. Damage to agricultural production exacerbates food shortages, and indirect effects lead to higher food prices and lower incomes, which limits people's access to food.
