Insurance Information Institute

The Insurance Information Institute is a U.S. industry organization which exists "to improve public understanding of insurance -- what it does and how it works." Its web site provides information for consumers, the media, researchers and the general public on a wide range of topics, including automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance, annuities, health insurance, long-term care insurance and disability insurance. The Web site also contains papers, presentations and factsheets that focus on financial results, catastrophes, climate change and other key issues the insurance industry faces.

      Insured losses from natural catastrophes totalled $130 billion, 76 percent above the 21st century average, and 18 percent higher than 2020.  Note: Natural disasters that cause at least $25 million in insured losses; or 10 deaths; or 50 people injured; or 2,000 filed claims or homes and structures damaged. Includes severe convective storms such as thunderstorms, tornadoes and hailstorms, straight-line winds and flooding that could occur with these storms. Less than $1 billion.
